In future 5G networks combined optical-wireless links transmitting millimeter wave signals will gain wide applications. For these links a new architecture is proposed. The treatment and optimization of the combined optical-wireless links as a complete system is an important issue. There are several challenging problems in both parts of this system. In the optical domain the fiber exhibits remarkable dispersion which deteriorates the signal transmission. Similar problems arise in the wireless domain due to multipath wave propagation. Using the concept of combining radio over fiber and wireless links the properties of system parts and their mutual effects are determined. In the millimeter wave band the wireless system part provides the area coverage of a picocell group with very narrow sectors obtaining this way optimum solution for the complete system.
