SUMMARY:3rd PhD and ECI meeting\, Sep 21st\, 2021\, Online
DESCRIPTION:The last PhD and ECI meeting of the EUIMWP COST Action is planned to take place on September 21st\, 2021. It will have to be virtual\, unfortunately\, since due to the COVID situation organising an in-person meeting would be too risky. \nSimilarly to what has been done in the past meetings\, participants are invited to very briefly present the topic of their research and then have a round table session to facilitate knowledge exchange and future collaboration options. \nAs a reminder\, according to the COST Vademecum\, ECI is an individual who is within a time span of up to 8 years from the date they obtained their PhD/doctorate (full-time equivalent). \nThe agenda will be published briefly.

SUMMARY:1st PhD and ECI meeting in Slovenia
DESCRIPTION:Dear EUIMWP participants\, \nHi\, we are pleased to announce you that Prof. Boštjan Batagelj and his team have offered to host the 1st EUIMWP PhD and ECI meeting in Ljubljana (Slovenia). The meeting will be held from January 31st to February 1st\, 2019\, at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering\, Tržaška 25\, Ljubljana\, Slovenia \nThis meeting aims to provide an opportunity for networking between ECIs and PhD students. We believe that at this early stage of their career the interaction can be very useful in terms of scientific knowledge\, exchange of ideas and potential collaborations. To be more concrete: \na) By allowing the ECIs to give short open-type presentations (i.e in form of discussion papers) they can be aware of “who is doing what” in integrated Microwave Photonics\, what are the problems and challenges their peers are facing and more importantly if they can provide help\, comment or feedback on how to tackle them in light of their experience. This could lead to personal collaborations that can be later formalized by means of STSMs. \nb) Moreover\, ECIs might find that they are trying to solve similar problems with different approaches so a benefit can be obtained by teaming up. Equally important\, new challenges can be identified were two or more ECIs can team to work together in order to find solutions. \nc) The meeting can be very useful in terms of exchanging experience on technical approaches\, interactions with foundries\, software use\, design approaches… Interactions can also cover issues related to measurements and characterization. Again\, in this case the interaction can provide a more detailed information of common problems that ECIs face when carrying out this work. For example an ECI wishing to perform a chip design/fabrication/testing can get first hand feedback and advice from others who have already completed training and/or a fabrication/test run. \nThe tentative agenda is as follows: \nThursday 31st January\n12:45 – 13:00 Welcome to PhD and ECI participants by Local Organiser\n13:00 – 15:30 PhD and ECI presentations (session I)\n15:30 – 16:00 Coffee break\n16:00 -18:30 PhD and ECI presentations (session II) \nFriday 1st February\n09:00 – 12:00 Round table: challenges and search for solutions \nThe Action will cover the travel\, accommodation and meals expenses of the participants\, according to COST rules (please have a look to the COST Vademecum\, downloadable here: https://www.cost.eu/cost-actions/cost-actions-networking-tools/\, pages 23-27). Please note that participants from International Partner Countries\, IPC (in the case of our Action: USA\, Australia\, China\, Canada\, Brazil\, Japan\, Iran and Colombia) are welcome to participate in this meeting\, but unfortunately the Action could not reimburse their expenses\, since they are not eligible… We are very sorry about this. \nFor applying\, please send an email to Christos Vagionas (chvagion@csd.auth.gr) and Pepa Bayarri (ghmanager.upv@gmail.com) showing your interest in participating in this meeting. Please state clearly the following information: \n1) First name and last name\n2) Institution and country\n3) Date of PhD defense (foreseen in the case of PhD students\, month and year)\n4) Gender\n5) Tentative title of the presentation (please send also your presentation to Prof. Batagelj (bostjan.batagelj@fe.uni-lj.si) as soon as possible\, and always before January 18th\, 2019. \nWe may need to ask you for further documents later. \nWe will consider applications received before January 18th\, 2019. \nIn the case the number of applications exceeded the number of seats\, priority would be given to PhD students on their second half of their training period. The Grant Holder reserves their right to make variations in the number of seats according to budget availability. \nPlease feel free to disseminate this announcement among the PhD students and ECIs in your groups. \nThank you and kind regards\, \nPepa Bayarri (Grant Holder Manager)\nJosé Capmany (Chair and Grant Holder)\nBostjan Batagelj (Local Organiser)\nChristos Vagionas (ECI Manager)

SUMMARY:Integrated Microwave Photonics: Enschede (the Netherlands)
DESCRIPTION:Dear EUIMWP participants\, \nOn behalf of the MC of the EUIMWP (European Network for High Performance Integrated Microwave Photonics\, CA 16220) COST Action\, we are pleased to announce the Training School entitled “Integrated Microwave photonics: from idea to chips”. It will take place in Enschede (the Netherlands)\, from 26th of February to 1st of March\, 2019\, and will be organized by LioniX International. \nThe training is based on the recently developed hybrid integrated microwave photonics chip platform developed by LioniX International\, which combines the low-loss silicon nitride (TriPleX) waveguide technology with indium phosphide (InP) chip-based active components\, such as gain diodes\, modulators\, and detectors in order to have a compact and robust multi-chip module. The combination of active InP and low loss TripleX allows the implementation of several functionalities on-chip\, e.g. filtering\, beamforming\, taking advantage of the strength of each material. This is the first fully hybrid integrated microwave photonics module that provides full RF-to-RF functionality. \nThe program is as follows:\nDay 1: Introduction to microwave photonics & performance analysis of a microwave photonic link\nDay 2: Functional design of a microwave photonic filter and beamformer\, and their performance simulations\nDay 3: From functional design to chip design\, fabrication\, assembly & characterization\nDay 4: TriPleX Multi Project Wafer (MPW) run training. \nFor more info see: www.lionix-international.com/mpw/ \nFor registration\, please contact Chris Roeloffzen (c.g.h.roeloffzen@lionix-int.com). \nGrants for attending the Training School\nThe EUIMWP (CA 16220) COST Action will offer a fixed grant (amount still to be confirmed) to trainees coming from COST countries and Near Neighbour Countries (please check the eligibility conditions in the COST Vademecum\, downloadable from the right menu of the COST website (https://www.cost.eu/cost-actions/cost-actions-networking-tools/)). These grants are a contribution to travel\, accommodation and meals expenses of trainees during their attendance to the course\, but they will not necessarily cover the totality of the expenses\, and in any case will cover the registration fee. \nThe grants will be given in a first come\, first served basis\, after checking that the eligibility criteria are met. \nThe Grant Holder reserves the right to modify the number of grants according to budget availability. \nHow to apply for a grant by the EUIMWP COST Action?\nPlease send an email to Pepa Bayarri\, the Grant Holder Manager of the EUIMWP COST Action (ghmanager.upv@gmail.com) expressing your interest in getting a grant\, with the following documents attached: \n• Document of your acceptation in the training\, signed by the organisers.\n• Any kind of proof to show your affiliation to your institution (a letter signed by your supervisor\, a copy of your contract/scholarship\, etc.). \nShould you have any question regarding the COST grants\, please contact Pepa Bayarri. \nThank you and kind regards\, \nJosé Capmany (Chair and Grant Holder)\nChris Roeloffzen (Local Organiser)\nPepa Bayarri (Grant Holder Manager)
