LIGENTEC is offering a Winter School in “Low-loss integrated photonics: Silicon nitride 2.0” in the EPFL Innovation Park in Lausanne (Switzerland), at 10 minutes walking distance from lake Geneva, on Wednesday 27th January 2021.
LIGENTEC is a Swiss based manufacturing partner, offering low loss SiN Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) for industries such as Quantum technologies, LiDAR, Communications, Space and Sensors. Due to its high confinement, the thick nitride waveguides and resonators have low bending losses and excel even in high power applications from the visible to the mid-IR. The main application areas for this advanced silicon photonics low loss technology include coherent telecommunication, LiDAR, metrology, supercontinuum generation, spectroscopy, sensing and microwave photonics. LIGENTEC’s All Nitride Core Technology platform is fully CMOS compatible, thus allowing us to offer ramping up to high volumes benefiting from the scale of the semiconductor industry. www.ligentec.com
The hybrid course (on-site or online attendance) is recommended to nanotechnology and optics enthusiasts, M.Sc./Ph.D candidates, postdocs & students. This course will allow participants to gain a strong understanding of basic nanotechnology concepts, through theory and hands-on experience during the visits to the clean room and the optical lab with LIGENTEC engineers.
Attendance to the Training School is free of charge, but requires registration. Registration can be done online in the following link: https://www.ligentec.com/
Please indicate in your registration message if you will attend the course on-site or online.
Note that the places will be filled on a first come first served basis, after checking the eligibility criteria.
The deadline for registration is Tuesday 12th January 2021.

Financial support for attending the Training School
The EUIMWP (CA 16220) COST Action will offer reimbursement for long-distance travel expenses and daily allowance to those trainees attending on-site. The financial support will follow the eligibility rules specified in the COST Vademecum, downloadable from the COST website (https://www.cost.eu/funding/
The reimbursements will be given on a first come, first served basis, after checking that the eligibility criteria are met.
The Grant Holder reserves the right to modify the number of reimbursements according to budget availability.
The reimbursements will always be made a posteriori, after checking that the participant has attended the entire event, signed the attendance list every day and submitted their claim.
How to apply for reimbursement by the EUIMWP COST Action?
Please send an email to Pepa Bayarri, the Grant Holder Manager of the EUIMWP COST Action (firstname.lastname@example.org) expressing your interest in being reimbursed, with the following documents attached:
• Document of your acceptance in the training school, signed by the organisers (a copy of their acceptance email will do).
• Any kind of proof to show your affiliation to your institution (a letter signed by your supervisor, a copy of your contract/scholarship, etc.).
Please note that given the current pandemic, applicants are requested to accept the responsibilities of any potential problems (including the financial ones) with the traveling restrictions they might face due to the global COVID-19 situation. They will be requested to sign a written document to make this commitment official. We strongly recommend to purchase a cancellation insurance with your travelling tickets. This cancellation insurance is eligible and its reimbursement can be claimed together with the travel costs and daily allowance.
Should you have any question regarding the COST grants, please contact Pepa Bayarri.
